StellarXplorers Advisory Board Meets

ARLINGTON, Virginia., December 1, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The Air Force Association’s StellarXplorers Advisory Board met for its inaugural meeting on November 3, 2021. The Board of Directors is a high-level advisory group formed to engage with high-level academic, government and industry leaders to obtain experienced advice on the growing involvement of StellarXplorers. Members encourage and facilitate the participation of industry volunteers in the program through corporate and other community outreach and corporate responsibility programs.

The StellarXplorers advisory board includes:

  • Sir. Norman R. Augustine, President
  • Sir. Bruno Tory, United Launch Alliance, CEO
  • Maj Gen Kim crider, USAF (Retired)
  • Dr. Charles Elachi, California Institute of Technology
  • M / s. Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed Martin Strategic Advisor to the CEO
  • Generator Lester L. Lyles, USAF (Retired)
  • Sir. Sean O’Keefe, Syracuse University
  • M / s. Sonia Lighthouses, vice president of engineering and technology at Lockheed Martin
  • Brigadier General Bernard skoch, USAF (Retired)
  • Sir. David thompson, Carnegie Institute for Science, Executive Vice President

The StellarXplorers Space STEM program is an educational initiative established by the AFA and comprising the National Space Design Competition and Summer StellarCamps. The StellarXplorers National Space Design Competition involves all aspects of system development and operation with an emphasis on spacecraft and payload. The Engineering Competition is designed to inspire students towards the future of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The StellarXplorers competition invites teams of students from across the country to use principles of space systems engineering to solve a four-round remote problem. Students involved in any youth organization – including high schools, Boys and Girls clubs, Scout units, and homeschool students – can participate. Winners receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the National Finals hosted at Space Center Houston.

StellarXplorers sponsors include Lockheed Martin, L3Harris, and the US Air Force’s STEM program, with additional support from the Educational Alliance of Analytical Graphics, Inc and Coyote Enterprises.
