Purdue University Global Fire Science Programs re-accredited by IFSAC; master’s degree in homeland security and emergency management receives initial accreditation

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University’s Global Fire Science Programs have been re-accredited by the International Fire Services Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). These programs are:

  • Associate of Applied Sciences in Fire Sciences
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire Science
  • Bachelor of Science in Fire and Emergency Management

In addition, the Master of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Management has received initial accreditation from IFSAC.

The programs were accredited with no conditional requirements imposed on accreditation status or recommendations for improvement from the IFSAC site team.

“The process used to gain programmatic accreditation is a very thorough process that takes the university to review the effectiveness of the program and ensure that we are doing what we say we are doing,” said Mike Brackin, Dean associate of Purdue Global College. social and behavioral sciences. “In addition, having our peers from other higher education institutions with programs in the field of studies review and validate our findings lets us know that we are on the right track to meet the needs of our students, graduates. and the communities they serve. “

IFSAC is a self-managed, not-for-profit, peer-led system comprised of both fire service certification programs and fire-related graduate programs. Its mission is to plan and administer a high quality accreditation system, issued in a uniform manner and of international scope.

Purdue Global is also recognized by the US Fire Administration as an Official Institution of Higher Education in Fire and Emergency Services (FESHE). Its fire science programs closely follow the FESHE model.

“Our programs allow students to capitalize on their fire-related certifications and work experiences and provide a knowledge and skill base to build their careers,” said Brackin.
