Members of the royal family were able to say a final farewell to the late Prince Philip on Saturday, who died just weeks before his 100th birthday. Prior to the funeral there had been a lot of speculation as to whether the men would wear military uniforms as such a move would have seen Prince Harry stand out like a sore thumb as he is no longer allowed to wear the outfit official soldier after having been stripped of his honor. military titles.

As a result, Harry could have been the only royal man to wear a normal costume for the event, although he would have been allowed to wear his military medals.

However, just days before the funeral, it was confirmed that the men of the royal family would be wearing morning suits and not military uniforms.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace said: ‘Members of the royal family will wear a gown with medals or daytime attire.

“That is, members of the royal family will not be in military uniform.”

There had been speculation the decision had been made to spare Harry embarrassment, but a royal expert offered a simpler explanation.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson told Express.co.uk: “I can understand why people think this, but in reality it just might not be.

“They were in mourning attire.

“If you remember, at Diana’s funeral, they wore only casual costumes.

Military uniforms were also not worn for Princess Margaret’s funeral in 2002.

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that the Queen has signed all arrangements for the funeral.

The spokesperson said: “All arrangements have been signed by Her Majesty.

“So that’s all there is to say.”

The official added, “We’re not going to be drawn into these perceptions of the drama, or anything like that.

“It’s a funeral. The arrangements have been made, and they represent Her Majesty’s wishes, so we’ll say nothing more.”

Robert Jobson has written several books on the Royal Family, including Sales Book # 1 “Diana: Closely Guarded Secret” in 2002.

His most recent book, “Prince Philip’s Century: The Extraordinary Life of the Duke of Edinburgh” is available for purchase from May 13th.
