Police arrest robbery suspect in military uniform
A man who allegedly colluded with his colleagues to steal from people while wearing army uniforms, Adeoye Ayomide, has been arrested by police in Ogun state.
State Police spokesman Abimbola Oyeyemi told PREMIUM TIMES on Friday that the suspect was arrested on Tuesday along the Ofada road in Mowe, in the Obafemi-Owode local government area of the ‘State.
He said the 23-year-old suspect was arrested around 8 p.m. after his gang allegedly robbed a retired army officer Adeyemo Adegboyega of N 86,000 on September 13 with a broken bottle.
Mr Oyeyemi said the incident was reported to Mowe’s division headquarters, after which the divisional police officer, Francis Ebuhoma, detailed his agents to track down the thugs.
“Their efforts paid off on Tuesday when officers received reports that the gang had been sighted in the Mowe area. Based on the information, the officers quickly took action, pursued the gang, and subsequently arrested one of them who was wearing a fake army uniform. “
The police spokesman said a search warrant was duly executed at the suspect’s house where other fake army uniforms were recovered.
He said Police Commissioner Ahmed Iliyasu ordered the suspect’s immediate transfer to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) for a quiet investigation and the arrest of other gang members.
