India was re-elected on Wednesday to the board of the United Nations for culture and education for the 2021-25 term. India won re-election with 164 votes. India’s election was conducted in Group IV of Asian and Pacific States, which also includes countries like Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, the Cook Islands and China.

India and Russia to hold first-ever 2 + 2 Ministerial Dialogue alongside annual summit
The very first edition of the “2 + 2” conversation between the Defense and Foreign Ministries of India and Russia could take place alongside a summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, which is scheduled to take place on Dec. 6, according to the PTI. Due to timing constraints, both sides plan to hold the “2 + 2” dialogue around the time of the summit. At the summit, the two sides are expected to finalize a number of agreements in the areas of defense, trade and investment, as well as science and technology. The summit will also announce the creation of a joint committee on technology and science, as well as the renewal of a military-technical cooperation framework for the next decade.

The Pakistani administration on Wednesday passed 33 bills in a joint session of parliament, with the opposition rejecting the legislation, saying the treasury banks bulldozed the bills. One of the bills passed gives the Indian Kulbhushan Jadhav the possibility of review and reconsideration. India ready to send wheat to Afghanistan; Shipment likely to be shipped via Pak: report

Israel rejects US proposal for interim deal to buy time for nuclear talks with Iran
In further efforts to buy time for discussions on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal with Iran, United States National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan launched the idea of a short-term deal with Tel Aviv. Citing his Israeli and US sources, Axios said Sullivan discussed the idea of the interim deal with his Israeli counterpart Eyal Hulata. Talks are currently at a preliminary stage and are expected to see further developments at the Vienna summit on November 29.

Coimbatore: Heavy rains bring down a giant 50-year-old tree; IMD issues red alert in Chennai
A large 50-year-old tree toppled in the Ukkadam district of Coimbatore last night. Four motorcycles were damaged. Heavy rains with thunder and lightning have hit the entire Coimbatore district over the past few days, and now the 50-year-old tree collapsed last night. People nearby did not come out due to the rain, so there were no casualties. Firefighters arrived at the site with forestry and earthmoving machinery to clear the road.
