As the war in Ukraine rages on with Russian bombers targeting several cities, President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an attempt to deny rumors that he had fled, released a self-recorded video on Friday of central kyiv swearing alongside helpers to stay and defend the capital against Russian invasion.

The video went viral on social media. “We are all here. Our army is here. The citizens of society are here. We are all here to defend our independence, our country, and it will stay that way,” Zelensky said, standing in front of the presidency building.

Dressed in olive-green military-style clothing and standing alongside his prime minister, chief of staff and other senior officials, Zelensky appeared to deny rumors that senior management had fled.
Russian troops briefly clashed with Ukrainian forces for the first time in kyiv on Friday.
