The Ghana Armed Forces have said that a suspect from a car theft syndicate in Buipe, seen wearing a military camouflage uniform, is not a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) soldier.

The GAF said its attention was drawn to several videos and photos on various social media platforms of the arrest of a syndicate of car thieves who allegedly attacked and snatched a car from a victim in Tamale.

“We wish to state categorically that the suspect is not a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces,” said a statement signed by Commander Andy La-Anyane, Acting Director of Public Relations, GAF, and copied to the agency. Ghana press.

The Ghana Police Service, in a press release, said five suspected armed robbers were arrested in Buipe in the Savannah region after a robbery incident in Tamale.

The suspects, according to police, snatched a Toyota Camry sedan from its owner in a residential area of Tamale and fled.

The police pursued them and succeeded in arresting them in Buipe.

A search for them led to the recovery of a G3 rifle and a pistol.

The Ghana Armed Forces have said they are concerned about the growing wave of identity theft by civilians, either wearing military uniforms or posting fake photos of themselves as military officers to scamming unsuspecting Ghanaians.

“The unauthorized sale of military uniforms and military gadgets by some vendors contributes to the situation and harms national security,” he said.

The Ghana Armed Forces, the statement said, were ready to cooperate with the police to find out the source of the military uniform in this incident and to further stop the unauthorized sale of military uniforms across the country.

He urged the public to trust and provide information to security agencies to nip the worrying trend in the bud.
